Description of activities

The National Coordination of UNESCO ASPnet in Lebanon diffused the Gift a Poem Campaign for this year 2025 among all UNESCO ASPnet. Three Lebanese UNESCO Associated schools succeeded in participating in the Gift a Poem campaign. These schools are from various backgrounds from Beirut, Mount Lebanon and Beqaa, two schools are from private sector, the third one from public sector. The poems, selected by students under the supervision of their teachers, tackled topics like motherhood, friendships, heritage, and citizenship. Here below reports of the respective schools: – At Grand Lycée franco-libanais Achrafieh –Beirut, the Fifth-grade students in the International Section (CM2F ) read and memorized Arabic poems that discuss homeland, humanity, and the importance of friendship. They chose a poem about friends to dedicate to every friend who has shared their joy, supported them in times of need, or comforted them in times of sorrow. They also chose a poem that enumerated the advantages of Lebanese cities and highlighted their customs, heritage, and landmarks. To highlight the importance of homeland to people and the sense of attachment to and preservation of it, as it is the home of family, friends, and loved ones, they were keen to recite it with dignity. This encouraged them to write poems similar to the poem, discussing their towns and villages, encouraging people to remain in Lebanon and motivating immigrants to return to their homeland. This group activity demonstrated the students’ spirit of cooperation, enthusiasm, and seriousness in completing the work. – Jawdat Rostom Haidar Public school Baalbeck-Beqaa Jawdat Rostom Haidar High School in Baalbeck, Lebanon, has proudly celebrated World Poetry Day by participating in the “Gift a Poem” campaign. The tenth graders diligently contributed to this initiative. Some students chose to gift their poems to their best friends, while others decided to honor their fathers or mothers with these special presents. 33 students participated in this campaign, but due to technical problems, 15 poems were sent. – Al Manar Modern School Ras El Metn-Mount Lebanon Al Manar Modern Ras El Metn celebrated the World Poetry Day by poems written by Grade 10 students + one poem written by one grade 8 student. 31 students participated in this campaign.
