Description of activities

The Gift a Poem project had a big echo and many ASPnet Romanian schools showed their interest in participating.

ASPnet coordinator from “Dragomir Hurmuzescu” Energetic Technological High School wrote: ”Gift a poem was considered the wonderful opportunity to pay tribute in verse to the dearest of all darlings on Earth, MOTHER! The students of the primary cycle of the “Dragomir Hurmuzescu” Energetic Technological High School Deva were challenged to write their own verses or those of established poets on a sheet of paper, which was then decorated. The recipients were pleasantly surprised, especially since the declaration of love was accompanied by other surprises.”

The project “Gift a poem” in Radu Negru High school was dedicated especially to women, celebrating all the women in our lives. Our students wrote and dedicated their poems to their friends, mothers and grandmothers.

Our students’ opinion on this project was that a poem can make a great gift for any occasion, especially when you are unsure what to give someone. Writing the poem by hand is a special gesture for someone you love and care about.

Some ASPnet Schools chose to offer poems and some products to the elderly from the Odobești Home for the Elderly or other people in special conditions.

The students of the class IX C from the “Vasile Alecsandri” National College in Iași, together with their teachers, created a poem starting from the lines from classical literature and decided to offer it to mothers who will give birth to a child, paying homage through them to all mothers. They aimed to show that poetry is a universal gift and that being close to it makes us better, but also to draw attention to motherhood as a collective responsibility, because a child that is born is a citizen of the world. “Gift a Poem”, an initiative of ASPnet Poland, included in the ASPnet Anniversary Program, became an opportunity, and our handwritten poem, entitled ‘Each mother is a poem’, is the gift we give to all mothers.

Even some Kindergartens asked to participate in this project, even if the children don’t know yet how to write, they realised the illustration for the poems written by their educators:

  • The teaching staff of the Kindergarten with Extended Program “Florea-Soarelui” Reșița wanted to get involved in this event and we thought of writing the verses because the children don’t know how to write, and for them to draw them.
  • We are part of a wonderful team: The 69 Kindergarten, Bucharest, Romania. We were very happy to take part in this project because we are planting and growing the love for poetry each and every day. This time it has been different: we learned together how to give lyrics as gifts. We gave them to parents, grandparents, children and to ‘special people’, the kindergarten teacher and the English teacher. To be short we tried to gather everyone in our hearts and to dedicate them poetry.
