Activities and Highlights
Students at Geunyoung Middle School in the Republic of Korea participated in the “Gift a Poem” campaign to celebrate World Poetry Day, expressing messages of peace, coexistence, and global citizenship through poetry. Students worked in mixed-grade groups and explored Korean poetry focusing on themes such as peace, hope, human dignity, and harmony with nature. Through the works of poets such as Yun Dong-ju and Na Tae-joo, they gained a deeper understanding of both Korean poetic traditions and universal human values.
Each group selected or created poems and carefully transcribed them by hand onto B4-sized paper, designing artistic posters to visually express their messages. Students then presented their work, sharing interpretations of their poems and reflecting on how poetry can promote peace and understanding in today’s world.
In addition, students produced short videos delivering meaningful messages such as “Poetry connects hearts” and “Peace for our world.” These activities allowed students to express their sincere hopes for a peaceful global community and a sustainable future for our planet. This project went beyond a simple poetry activity, becoming an opportunity for students to grow as global citizens who understand, respect, and empathize with others.
Through international collaboration with students from Poland and Lithuania, they experienced how poetry can connect people across cultures and languages. We hope that these small poems created by students will carry messages of peace and love beyond borders and contribute to building a more harmonious and sustainable world.
